O governador Binho Marques participou nesta quarta-feira, 12, no Horto Florestal, do lançamento em Rio Branco do Fórum Amazônia Sustentável, cujo tema desta quarta edição é "REDD e Povos da Floresta". O fórum pretende contribuir com o debate nacional sobre a posição que o Brasil deve apresentar na COP-15, a Convenção das Nações Unidas sobre Mudanças do Clima que acontece em dezembro, em Copenhague. Marques abriu o evento falando da importância da reunião no Acre, palco de lutas que geraram inovações no planejamento e na agenda ambiental do Brasil e do mundo. Esse processo, segundo ele, tem de se espraiar pelos continentes para manter-se vigoroso e inovador diante das demandas impostas pelas mudanças climáticas. "Só vamos avançar com esta causa sendo ela verdadeiramente planetária", disse Marques. Os debates devem avançar para que o Brasil tenha uma posição de protagonista no debate mundial e para que sejam incorporadas às comunidades nessa agenda.

REDD (Redução de Emissões para o Desmatamento e Degradação) é um mecanismo de compensação por redução de desmatamento e degradação ambiental. De acordo com os organizadores do Fórum, significa para o Brasil a chance de receber recursos internacionais para ajudar a conter as emissões de gases de efeito estufa por meio de ações de conservação e manejo florestal e pagamentos por serviços ambientais para comunidades extrativistas e indígenas. "Por isto espaço é importante, de trazer os guardiães da floresta para dizer o que pensam sobre o tema", observou Manoel Cunha, do Conselho Nacional de Seringueiros.
